(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) PlayStation Plus Collection is a free library of games on PS5 for PS Plus members.Earlier this month, Sony unveiled the PlayStation Plus Collection, a new “benefit” for PlayStation 5. Well, technically, it feels like more of a benefit for PlayStation Plus members who are purchasing a PS5.If you already pay for PlayStation Plus, you’ll get access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, a library of first- and third-party games that will be immediately available to download and play on your PlayStation 5 at launch. They are older titles for the most part. So far, announced games include Batman: Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Days Gone, Final Fantasy 15, God of War, Infamous: Second Son, The Last of Us: Remastered, and a few others. It’s a fairly small collection of games but definitely quite a few gems in it. And as an added bonus for PS Plus, it’s hard to complain. So when you ask is PlayStation Plus Collection free on PS5, the answer is sort of mixed. Yes, it’s free — as long as you already pay for PlayStation Plus. If you own a PS4 and play games online, odds are you are already a member so it won’t cost you anything extra. Some believe PlayStation Plus Collection is Sony’s answer to Xbox Game Pass, but there’s no indication that this is meant to compete with Xbox’s massive library of games. The library is limited and there’s no way Sony releases its newer first-party games on there simultaneously as Xbox does with Game Pass. We also don’t know if the PlayStation Plus Collection will add new games or rotate older ones out, so we can’t even compare it to Microsoft’s “Netflix for games” type model. With few new AAA blockbusters launching alongside the PlayStation 5 on November 12, PlayStation Plus Collection will give gamers something to play on launch day. That, of course, is in addition to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls. To answer the original question, though, PlayStation Plus Collection is a free added benefit of PlayStation Plus.
