(Photo Source: IPL/BCCI)The Sunrisers Hyderabad just started having their share of happiness by opening their account on the points table, but the bad news is here for one of their champions. In the match that SRH won against Delhi Capitals, Jonny Bairstow played a brilliant knock of 53 runs off 48 balls. He is faring well for his squad, but some unfortunate news has arrived for him on his home front. Bairstow will lose big when England’s central contract for 2020-21 will be announced on September 30.
Bairstow is set to be axed by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for his Test contract. ECB is all set to come with a list of contracted players for next year, and as per the reports by Daily Mail, Bairstow will no longer be the part of the list, and he will be axed at the expense of opener, Dominic Sibley.
The 31-year-old English player was one of ten players who got the contract from ECB a year ago. However, he could feature only once since then for his nation in the longest format of the game and is expected to drop down to an ECB white-ball deal. As per the norms of the ECB contract for Tests, each player is handed over the annual contract ranging from 6.5Cr, which is £650,000.
As per Mirror, players with Test deals earn £650,000 per year and white-ball around £275,000. Players with both contracts earn £925,000.
Sibley, Pope or Crawley to replace Jonny Bairstow
The current scenario states that the SRH opener is set to lose his contract as he has only featured in one Test match for 12 months. Now, ECB Director for Cricket Operations Ashley Giles is likely to keep him aside from the team as per the reports. Though the skilled opener will be dropped from his Test side, he will continue to be an integral part of his team in limited-overs cricket.
Bairstow is currently enjoying his IPL 2020 season, being one of the vitals cogs for the SRH team. He has been roped in by the team at a whopping 2.2 Crore. As per the reports, Bairstow is set to be replaced by Dominic Sibley in Test contracts, and other names that are being considered are of Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley. Some other British cricketers are also set to see a promotion in central contracts.
