Entertainment ‘WandaVision’: Does Scarlet Witch Create a New Captain Marvel?

With Black Widow delayed until 2021, WandaVision is now the only Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie or show that’s happening in 2020, but fans have a lot to be excited for. WandaVision will be the first of many Marvel shows on Disney+, and not only that but the trailer also makes it seem like it’s a very weird and interesting show.

Wanda, or the Scarlet Witch, is a very powerful character in the comics, and WandaVision is set to explore just how powerful she really is. In the movies, Wanda is powerful enough to threaten Thanos by herself, but in the comics, she can do even more than that. Here’s a look at how Wanda in WandaVision can introduce a new Captain Marvel to the MCU.

What ‘WandaVision’ is about

Elizabeth Olsen | Film Frame/Marvel StudiosAfter the events of Infinity War, some fans may be wondering how Vision can still exist since he was killed by Thanos. He was killed before the snap, and as a result, some fans think that Vision’s death is permanent.

However, in WandaVision, Wanda and Vision are seemingly living their best life in a strange TV show that resembles a 1950s sitcom. This is one of the main selling points of the show, as it’s such a dramatic detour from what the MCU is typically about.

Rather than fighting evil aliens or saving the Earth, WandaVision seems to be a more intimate exploration of Wanda and her powers, as well as her relationship with Vision. But of course, that’s just what the show seems to be about. There could be more to it than that.

What the trailer of ‘WandaVision’ reveals

Disney recently dropped the trailer for WandaVision, and to no one’s surprise, it was a massive hit that created a lot of hype. That said, while the trailer showed off that 1950s sitcom aesthetic, it also made some revelations about what the show could actually be about.

The most obvious revelation is that Wanda is indeed making that TV show happen with her powers. This is consistent with what she can do in the comics, since she’s well-known for being able to manipulate reality. That wasn’t really the most surprising revelation, but the trailer also made some reveals about what’s happening elsewhere in the MCU.

In one of the last shots of the trailer, Monica Rambeau, who’s the daughter of Maria Rambeau, is sent flying through a portal and is then surrounded by secret agents, probably from S.H.I.E.L.D.’s successor. Maria is Captain Marvel’s friend from the Air Force, and Monica is a significant character in the comics. In fact, it’s entirely possible that Monica will become another Captain Marvel thanks to Wanda’s powers.

As Screen Rant reported, Monica, who’s played by Teyonah Parris, has the potential to become another Captain Marvel due to how her story plays out in the comics. In the comics, Monica becomes a superpower after she encounters some extradimensional energy.

The MCU hasn’t really touched on extradimensional energy yet, but it’s possible that the MCU will create an equivalent to it for the movies. Wanda is very powerful, and the movies make it clear that she’s not able to control her powers very much. She’s been spending the last few movies honing her skills, and as a result, she’s become more powerful with each movie.

As such, it’s entirely possible that, in WandaVision, while she’s creating that alternate reality where she and Vision can live a happy life together, she accidentally hits Monica with some of her powers. Like Screen Rant wrote, that’s how Monica can turn into a superhero.

That said, in the comics, while Monica eventually takes up the mantle of Captain Marvel, she’s usually referred to as either Photon, Pulsar, or Spectrum instead.
